6 Ways to Prioritise Your Mental Health

We all have mental health and these last few years have definitely shown we need to prioritise it. Whether it's relationships, finances, stress or lack of sleep - we all have good and bad days.

The awesome news is that there are loads of ways we can help ourselves. Nutrition, exercise, therapy or changing your daily habits can have a big impact on your mental health.

Here are 6 ways to prioritise your mental health

1. Get moving

Probably our favourite way to cope with stress and mental health and what we love. The benefits to moving your body are endless. Hitting the road for a run, lifting weights or a yoga flow are just a few ways to get moving. Regular movement can help to destress, refocus your mind and give you a mood booster.

2. Laugh

You might have heard that saying - laughter is the best medicine. It's actually based on fact. 'According to the Mayo Clinic, laughing activates and relieves your stress response, soothes tension, improves mood, and increases personal satisfaction.' Watch those funny TikTok videos, check out a local comedy show or reach out to that one friend you know you can be silly with.

3. Get out of your comfort zone and meet new people

Book club, running club or anything in between. It's a great way to beat loneliness. Finding your tribe who share the same passion for your interests and meeting like minded people can form lasting relationships.

4. Make time for rest

We know for many - taking time to rest is a privilege. Some can take weeks and months off and some hours or a few days. Most importantly - take whatever time you can to rest. Rest is different for everyone. Meditation, a walk on beach, curling up with a good book. One of the best things you can do is take time away from the electronics which can help reduce stress and even improve your motivation.

5. Journal

Sometimes we keep our thoughts locked up and can have a hard time working through them. Journaling is a great way to express your thoughts and pinpoint what might be bugging you. You can work through your thoughts and emotions and get a clearer picture on what you might want to change or work on to prioritise your mental health.

6. Ask for help

Experiencing mental health problems for the first time can be extremely scary and overwhelming. It can also be scary to speak to friends and family about it as there can be embarrassment and feelings of shame attached to how you feel. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember is that you're not alone and there is always a way forward no matter what you may be going through.
