6 Week Training Plan to Your First 5K

I'm not exaggerating when I say that a few years ago I could barely run around the block without gasping for air and keeling over on the pavement... Running is one of those things where you either love it or you hate it but I do know that you can grow to love it once the bug bites.

The hardest part about running is just getting started - building up that initial fitness can be tough because you have to break through some mental barriers when your mind plays tricks on you trying to get you to quit.

You first 5k

When we first started running we entered a 21k. This is honestly the best way to stay motivated. When you have a goal you're working towards it's such a good motivating factor to get yourself out there pounding the pavement. Also, a training buddy is a great way to keep you on track. You can motivate each other and it's always nice sharing your goals and achievements with someone.

A lot of times why people hate running is they try to do too much too soon. Be gentle on yourself - Rome wasn't built in a day. Yes there will be days that are harder than others but every time you run it will get just a tiny bit easier.

This is a great beginner 5K training program that's really easy to follow and builds you up gently to your first 5k.

6 Week 5k Beginner Training Plan

The Parkrun is great starter race for your first 5k. They run them every Saturday all over the country and it's free to sign up. Take the leap and add a Parkrun to your calendar for 6 weeks time. Just take the training plan one day at a time and you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish. :)
