There's a saying in recovery that always sticks with me - 'Sober not dead'. Often with a healthy lifestyle and fitness there is a misconception that it's not fun and consumes your whole life. While that can sometimes be the case - going extreme in either direction - that's where the importance of balance comes in.

We're all so different - everyone's minds and bodies respond in different ways. The most important thing is finding the right balance for you. We're all guilty of it, scrolling through Instagram and Facebook and seeing others seeming to live a perfect lifestyle and comparing ourselves and coming up short. The main takeaway is to not be too hard on yourself - we all have our own journey to take. Creating a balanced lifestyle doesn't happen overnight - little steps we take every day help us towards creating balance. 

 

A few tips to work towards living a balanced life:

  • Exercise. Choose something that you enjoy to get active and try to maintain doing it a few times a week.
  • Eat right. Make sure to fuel your body with the right food. Maybe take a bit of extra time for meal prep to make sure you're not skipping any meals and fuelling your body with the right food. You can still live though. You can still be healthy and eat the donut. When you're maintaining a balanced diet you can still enjoy the small treats as long as there is balance.
  • Set goals. Small or big. Fitness or work. Setting goals and achieving them helps to keep a positive mindset and keeps you on track.
  • Keep organised. A little bit of planning can save you time and reduce your stress levels

 

Benefits of maintaining a balanced life:

  • Reduces your stress. In these crazy times - anything to reduce stress levels is a win.
  • Boosts your energy and lifts your mood. Eating right and exercising fuels your body and gives you more energy. This can help give you more time and energy to devote to your hobbies and other interests.
  • Improves your health, well being and mental state of mind. This can help reduce anxiety and help fight against depression.
