We all know that feeling, the days get shorter, the nights get longer, the temperatures drop and sometimes take our workout motivation with it. It can definitely be harder to stay motivated to keep your workout routine in winter so here are 7 tips to keep you motivated!

1. Find a training program

Whether it's a 10k running program, workout app or trainer get yourself a program. It's so much easier to stay motivated when you know what your workout week looks like. You can plan your week and your days around the workout so you can make sure to fit it in.

2. Get your workout done in the morning

This might be a tough one for the 'not a morning person' folks out there, however getting your workout done in the morning starts your day in a great way. You've already accomplished something and it gets the endorphins flowing early. Go to  bed a bit earlier so you can make time for it in the mornings.

3. Find a workout buddy or training group

We cannot stress enough how much of a game changer this is. Having an accountability buddy will keep you motivated because you don't want to let them down. A bit of healthy competition to push each other is also a great way to have more fun during your workouts. Do a bit of internet sleuthing in your area and look for running buddies or workout groups that you can join. You also meet the best people who love working out too.

4. Set a goal

There is nothing better to motivate you than to work towards a goal. Enter that 10k race, fitness challenge or personal goal within a time frame. It's so much easier to work towards a goal than to just try plod along your fitness journey with no big goals to hit. No matter how big or small that goal is - it's an achievement that will mean something great to you.

5. Get your workout gear ready the night before

This may seem silly but if your gym bag is packed or your running gear is set out for you, you're already one step closer to working out and it will make you feel ready to go.

6. Add music to your workouts

On those days where the motivation is feeling extra low - add your favourite playlist that gets you pumped. There's nothing like your favourite songs or the ultimate playlist to get you amped. Check out our workout playlists on Apple Music and Spotify here.

7. Don't compare your fitness journey

Social media is amazing in keeping us all connected but it can be a bit of a pitfall with comparing ourselves to others. There are so many different factors in peoples circumstances, time to workout, body types and more. Don't get disheartened if people you follow workout more or do harder activities or exercises. Stay focused on your own goals and just take it one day at a time.
